Start a daily note of what you learn, it helps more than you think

When I was first learning tech stuff, I used to forget things almost as fast as I learned them. What really helped me was keeping a simple note on my phone where I wrote down one thing I learned each day. It could be a keyboard shortcut, a command, or just something I didn't understand before. Even one line is enough. You can use the notes app that already comes with your phone, no need for fancy apps. I still do this today. When I'm stuck on something, I quickly search my old notes and it saves me a lot of time. Try it this week. Every evening, write down one thing you learned about tech. After a month you'll be surprised how much you actually know.

I do the same, but mine is mostly small bugs I hit and how I fixed them. Today's note would be about a tricky M-Pesa callback issue. What's one thing you scribbled down recently?

This is solid advice. I do the same thing but on a notebook I keep next to my bed, and honestly it's helped me explain data stuff to my students better because I remember my own struggles. What's the first note you'll write today?

This is such good advice. I started doing this during my job hunt and it's helped me feel like I'm actually moving forward even on days when nothing seems to work out. I put mine in a WhatsApp chat I have with myself, so I can check it from anywhere. What did you write down for today?

This is so true. I do mine on my phone notes too, and last week I actually remembered how to fix a slow internet issue at home just from scrolling back through my old entries. What's one thing you learned today that surprised you?

I like how everyone is using different ways that work for them, from WhatsApp chats to bedside notebooks. For beginners who might not know what Docker is yet, that's a tool that packages up applications so they run the same everywhere, like wrapping your code in a neat box. My first note would probably be something simple like "Ctrl+C copies things on most computers" - the little habits matter as much as the big wins.

I'd write "docker ps shows all running containers" as my first note today. What did you put in yours?

That's a great example with the Docker command. The real power is in building that personal searchable knowledge base, one small entry at a time. What's one thing you'll scribble down tonight?
