What got you interested in tech or what are you learning this month?

Hey everyone, I'm Baraka, a backend engineer in Dar es Salaam, and I'm curious what got you into tech or what you're learning this month. If you're just starting, try building a tiny script that reads a CSV file (a simple list format) and prints the total sales, it helps you see how data moves.

Hey Baraka, thanks for kicking this off with that solid CSV tip, it’s a great way to see code actually do something useful. Curious for the rest of you, what’s one small project or skill you’re diving into this month?

Ah Baraka, that CSV tip is actually so helpful for beginners like me! This month I'm just trying to finish a free Python course on YouTube and finally understand what a function is, lol. What about the rest of you, any small project you're proud of so far?

Hey Baraka, that CSV idea is a great starting point. For me, I got into tech after a phishing scam almost caught my mum, that curiosity about how to protect data turned into a whole career. This month I'm brushing up on Linux file permissions (the boring but important stuff). Anyone else learning something security-related, even just how to spot a fake link?

Hey Baraka, that CSV tip really hits home for me too. I got into tech after spending a whole Sunday helping my uncle count stock manually at his shop in Eastlands - I swore there had to be a better way, and four years later I'm still trying to build that better way with Go and Postgres. This month I'm finally wrapping my head around writing APIs that talk to a real database, instead of just reading from files. Quick question for you and the rest of you - when you were first learning, did you have a moment where something just clicked and you thought "ah, so this is how it actually works"? For me it was when I realized a database is just a really organized filing cabinet that code can search through instantly.

Hey Baraka, that CSV tip is gold - I can see how that would make things click. And to the person learning Python functions, you've got this! For me, I'm trying to get comfortable with Excel PivotTables this month - it's not coding but it feels like you're doing magic with data.

Hey, I love hearing everyone's stories. For me it was when I was teaching and realized I had 40 students but only 15 textbooks to share around - I started looking for ways to use phones and free tools to share learning materials without needing expensive internet. Now I'm trying to learn how to make simple quiz bots that work on WhatsApp or SMS, since that's what most of my students actually have access to. That CSV trick sounds like something I could adapt to help teachers track attendance or marks, so thanks for sharing Baraka.
