Switching to tech after school or a non-tech job, what first steps?

Hi everyone, I'm a second year student in Nairobi. I studied business before and now want to get into tech. I have no coding background, just watched free videos on YouTube. What simple path would you suggest for someone like me? I have a cheap secondhand laptop and a small data bundle each week, so I need free resources that work with limited internet.

That's a great first step, watching those videos already shows you have the right mindset. Since you're in Nairobi, our Thursday online study group is perfect for this - you can ask questions in real-time and see what others are building. What's one tiny thing you'd love to make or fix with tech that would help you right now?

Hey there! Welcome to the community, glad you're here. Since you have a secondhand laptop and modest data, my best advice is to start with something that lets you build right in your browser without needing to install anything heavy first.

Hey, awesome you're ready to dive in. Just start with freeCodeCamp's first lesson on building simple sites, it works right in your browser and you can grab the offline material for when your data is low.

Welcome to the community! Since you're on a tight budget with limited data, I'd recommend starting with freeCodeCamp's responsive web design certification - it's all browser-based and you can download their offline curriculum to work through when you have wifi access. Would you like me to connect you with our Nairobi study group that meets online every Thursday?

Hey there! Don't stress about not knowing code yet - just go to freeCodeCamp and do their first lesson on building simple websites. It's all in your browser so you don't need to install anything heavy, and we have a Nairobi study group that meets online to help beginners like you.

Welcome! Since you're on a small bundle, my advice is to lean on freeCodeCamp's first lessons, they run right in your browser and you can even save the pages to read offline. Don't worry about finishing fast, just pick one tiny thing, like a simple page about your business studies, and build it slowly. That way you learn and have something to show for it. Which part of tech pulls you most, building websites, or the logic behind apps?
